DCI Banks: Aftermath is a two-part thriller that airs tonight on ITV1. Part One is full of twists right from the start, as it begins with what might be the end of most mysteries/procedurals: the capture of a serial killer. In this episode, however, that capture is just the first of many layers of mysteries. More than one life hangs in the balance in this tightly-paced investigation that will leave you wanting to see the conclusion as soon as possible.
Stephen Tompkinson is completely convincing as the title character, a man who is clearly pushed to the limit with this case. Andrea Lowe keeps you guessing as the ambitious DS conducting a parallel investigation, and Monica Dolan, who was so creepy in U Be Dead, plays the neighbor with quiet intensity.
I can’t wait for the conclusion, and hope it will live up to this excellent Part One.
